Ukraine and EU Advance Mutual Recognition of E-Signatures
Ukraine and the European Union are taking steps towards mutual recognition of qualified electronic signatures, which will simplify interactions for citizens and businesses.
The publication Deals has reported significant progress regarding the mutual recognition of qualified electronic signatures (QES) between Ukraine and the European Union. Currently, the EU will temporarily recognize Ukrainian QES as advanced, and following the conclusion of a relevant agreement, as qualified. This pilot project is an important step towards integrating Ukrainian electronic trust services into the European space.
The main goal of this initiative is to simplify access to electronic services and personal identification for Ukrainians abroad, as well as for Ukrainian companies operating within the EU. This will significantly speed up and facilitate interactions with European institutions and partners.
The state enterprise “Diia” is responsible for the technical implementation of the project, with coordination by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. Qualified electronic trust service providers can voluntarily join this pilot project. It is worth noting that as early as July 2022, the National Bank of Ukraine regulated the recognition of EU qualified electronic trust services within Ukraine’s banking system, demonstrating consistent progress in this direction.
