Ukraine Launches Electronic Archives Project

Ukraine has initiated the ‘e-Archive’ project to digitize the storage of National Archival Fund documents and state information resources.

Ukraine has launched the ‘e-Archive’ project, aimed at digitizing the storage of National Archival Fund documents and state electronic information resources. This initiative will create conditions for automated accounting and electronic storage of archival materials, ensuring rapid access to necessary information.

The ‘e-Archive’ project addresses the challenge of significant volumes of paper documents transferred to state archives annually. For instance, the Ministry of Justice transfers approximately 1200 cases, comprising hundreds of thousands of pages, each year. Through digitization, electronic documents requiring long-term storage will no longer necessitate the creation of certified paper copies, significantly simplifying processes and reducing costs.

Initially, the project is planned for scaling across all government bodies, and subsequently to other organizations, fostering the development of a comprehensive electronic archive system in Ukraine. Anatoliy Khromov, Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, noted that this marks a new era of electronic archiving in the country. Information about the project launch was published on the InBase resource.
