Ukraine Allows Permanent Use of Advanced Electronic Signatures
Ukraine has permanently authorized the use of advanced electronic signatures (AES) in place of qualified electronic signatures (QES), streamlining electronic document management.
The media resource InBase has reported on significant changes in Ukraine’s electronic trust services. Advanced electronic signatures (AES) and seals can now be used on a permanent basis, replacing qualified electronic signatures (QES). Previously, this option was temporary and only applicable during martial law.
This change considerably simplifies the process of obtaining and using electronic signatures for document signing. Unlike QES, which requires storage on a secure device (token) and in-person offline identification, AES is a file-based signature. It can be created online and stored on a computer or flash drive, making it more accessible and convenient.
For Ukrainian businesses and the Intecracy Group audience, this decision offers several key advantages:
- Simplification and Accessibility: The ability to create AES online and store it as a file significantly eases the transition to electronic document management, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses, by reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
- EU Harmonization: This step helps align Ukrainian legislation with European standards in electronic trust services, which is crucial for international cooperation and European integration.
- Flexibility of Choice: Companies requiring a higher level of security can still opt for QES. This ensures flexibility in choosing electronic signature tools based on specific needs and security policies.
These changes will further promote the development of electronic document management in Ukraine, making it more convenient and efficient.
