Ukraine’s QES Renewal and Cancellation During Wartime

Ukrainian businesses need to understand the automatic renewal of Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES) during martial law and when cancellation is necessary.

Intecracy Group’s media outlets are informing Ukrainian businesses about key aspects of using Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES), referencing an article published on the Deals platform.

According to information from Deals, the process for renewing QES in Ukraine has been simplified during martial law. New public key certificates are automatically generated one day before their expiration. The user’s private key file remains unchanged and remains valid for another year. This ensures uninterrupted electronic document flow and interaction with government bodies without requiring additional actions from businesses.

However, there are situations where QES cancellation is mandatory or recommended. It should be canceled if it is no longer needed and automatic renewal is not desired. Mandatory cancellation is required in the following cases:

  • Compromise of the private key (suspicion or confirmed unauthorized access, loss, or damage to the storage medium).
  • Changes to the information specified in the qualified certificate.
  • Discovery of errors in the qualified certificate’s details.

QES can be canceled electronically (24/7 using the qualified electronic signature tool ‘IIT Korystuvach CSK-1’), in writing, or by phone. The electronic method is the simplest and fastest.

This information is valuable for Ukrainian businesses for several reasons. Firstly, automatic QES renewal ensures the continuity of business processes and legal compliance during wartime, minimizing bureaucratic hurdles. Secondly, a clear understanding of the conditions for QES cancellation helps protect businesses from potential data compromise risks. Thirdly, knowledge of simplified QES management procedures facilitates efficient digital document management, which is crucial for modern companies.
